New Port Richey, Florida, USA.
Cyndie Smith lives on the water.
For her, it's beautiful to sit outside in the morning with a cup of coffee and watch the fish jumping!
I interviewed her about her handmade collection, Cyndie Smith Designs.
She wants her work to communicate boldness and a love of adventure.
The wearer has to have a sense of humor, because usually the design is different from most people's idea of jewelry.
The source of inspiration comes from the metal she works: once the torch hits the metal, she lets it do what it wants to do.
Starting from an idea, most often the end end product is different from what she envisioned.
Silver, copper or brass.
Cyndie recycles materials whenever possible.
Working with metal usually involves having a lot of scraps, so she has plenty available.
Sometimes she takes apart an old piece she made, and melt it down to use all over again.
She plays around with the metal, until something pops into her mind.
It could be a beautiful stone that she wants to display, maybe a few pieces of metal that fit together beautifully.
she rarely draws a design first, unless it’s for a custom piece that she is designing for someone.
What is creativity inside you?
"I enjoy all forms of creativity and collect works from other artists. My house looks like an art gallery, but it’s hard to ignore all the wonderful talent out there. I love meeting artists from all over the world, and have many customers, now friends, in Europe and Australia. Nothing is more satisfying than to see someone wearing my art!"
