GRETA POLLMAN

Greta Pollman is an indie fashion designer from Oradea.

Her experience as an artist and her love of nature provide an inexhaustible source of imaginery that she transforms into fashion designs.

Matching or combining different fabrics, like cotton, line, silk with luxury, natural fabrics, like merino, cashmere, silk fiber, her creations are higly wearable, while also retaining a young and dreamy look for a very chic, smart, contemporary collection.

Her designs are available in Western Europe online and through boutiques and concept stores:

"Verb" collection is available in her online Boutique.

"Till Death Do Us Part" - evening wear capsule collection and "Bevisst" - prêt-à-porter collection- will be available early 2011 at the  Boutique 14/18, 10 bis Rue du Vieux-College, Geneva and other stores.

She worked  previously in the mainstream fashion industry, now she escapes into the freedom of her own brand, where she can choose every detail for every single piece.

This is the extract of my interview.

"My studio and workshop is located in Oradea, an old bourgeois city in Transylvania, right on the Hungarian border. This location gives it a warm, multicultural essence which transpires in both the predominantly art deco architecture and the open character of its people. 

Growing up here means I could sample two very different cultures and ways of life and this thought me to always keep an open mind and seek a different point of view. Away from my studio, my work has taken me all over continental Europe for fashion shows and boutiques representation further feeding my appetite for the new and undiscovered.

Inspiration is in everything I like, in everything I experience, everything I see, touch or smell. 

It is in  music, art, films, books. It grows in nature, but it can also reside in a street in forms like style or architecture. 

When creating a new collection I usually focus on a certain idea, concept or area of thinking. 

For example, my latest evening wear "Till Death Do Us Part" capsule-collection is built around the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood's imagery and ideas. 

This capsule collection is part of my new upcoming collection "Bevisst" which also includes prêt-à-porter designs and marks another form of inspiration. 

"Bevisst" means conscience in Norwegian and symbolizes our need to make sure that everything we wear is made in a sustainable way, with regards to both the environment and the quality of life of the people working on them.

The clothes you wear can and do transform you, they can give you supernatural powers, they can make you feel young and feminine.

This is what I strive to achieve with every design: to empower the modern woman, to give her another reason to feel confident by wearing designs that are different yet not outrageous and at the same time sophisticated but not overdone.

Texture, colour and layering are the main things that define the fabrics and the ones that give them character and value. 

I use the fabrics to create layers on the human body, almost like a living sculpture and, as a consequence, I prefer to work with natural and organic materials such as wool, silk and cotton.

After the initial idea sparks and the concept and theme are defined it's a matter of experimentation. 

Yes, creativity for me means just that: create and evaluate, take it apart if needed and do it again until the result is perfection."

Greta Pollman è la indie fashion designer dell'omonimo brand di abbigliamento femminile.

La sua formazione artistica e il suo amore per la natura sono una fonte inesauribile di immaginazione, che abilmente trasforma in creazioni di moda.

Combinare tessuti differente come il cotone, il lino, la seta insieme alla preziosità di tessuti naturali, come il cashmere, la lana merino, la seta. Le sue creazioni sono capi facilmente abbinabili, nonostante mantengano una visione giovane e sognante, per un collezione chic & smart.

La sua collezione è già disponibile in varie boutique e concept store dell'Europa Occidentale: la collezione "Verb" è disponibile anche nella sua boutique online, mentre "Till Death Do Us Part", una capsule collection di abiti da sera sarà disponibile nei primi mesi del 2011, nella Boutique 14/18, Rue du Vieux- College, a Ginevra insieme alla collezione "Bevisst".

Nonostante precedenti esperienze nel mondo della moda, Greta ora esplora e scopre la libertà di creare una propria collezione, in cui può scegliere ogni dettaglio di ogni singolo capo.

Ho intervistato Greta Pollman a proposito della sua creatività.

Il suo studio si trova a Oradea, un'antica città borghese della Transilvania, Ungheria.

Un'essenza multiculturale che si percepisce nella predominanza dell'art decò, ma anche nel carattere aperto di questa gente.

Crescere in questo luogo significa assaggiare due diverse culture e due modi di vivere, insegnando così a Greta a ricercare un differente punto di vista, sempre.

Ispirazione è qualsiasi cosa piace a Greta, qualsiasi esperienza, qualsiasi cosa lei veda, senta o annusi. 

è nella musica, nell'arte, nei film e nei libri. Cresce nella natura, oppure risiede nelle strade, nelle forme dell'architettura e negli stili delle persone.

Un'idea, un concetto, un pensiero.

L'ultima capsule collection, "Till Death Do Us Part", è costruita attorno all'immaginario della confraternita dei Pre- Raffaeliti. 

La capsule fa parte della nuova collezione "Bevisst", tra poco di sponibile, che include capi prêt-à-porter: Bevisst in norvegese significa coscienza, simboleggia il nostro bisogno di sapere che qualsiasi cosa indossiamo sia realizzato in un modo sostenibile, con riguardo per l'ambiente e per la qualità della vita delle persone che ci lavorano.

Gli abiti che indossiamo possono e riescono a trasformarci: un potere soprannaturale, una sensazione di giovinezza e femminilità.

Questo è quello che Greta cerca di conferire ad ogni creazione: enfatizzare la donna moderna, darle una ragione in più per sentirsi sicura indossano capi particolare, non esagerati, ma sicuramente sofisticati.

Colori, strati, texture sono le cose che definiscono un tessuto e che gli conferiscono valore e carattere.

Greta usa i tessuti per creare strati sovrapposti al corpo umano, come una scultura vivente: per questo preferisce lavorare con materiali organici e naturali, come lana, seta e cotone.

Quando scintilla l'idea, quando il tema e il concept sono definiti, allora creare è sperimentare

Sì, creatività, per Greta, significa creare e valutare, smontarlo se necessario e farlo nuovamente fino alla perfezione del risultato.
